Typical dKos: Blame Bush For Appropriately Correcting A Democrat

From Daily Kos:

Bush, being a petulant prick again:

At a private reception held at the White House with newly elected lawmakers shortly after the election, Bush asked Webb how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing.

Webb responded that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, said a person who heard about the exchange from Webb.

“I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,” Bush retorted, according to the source.

Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source [...].

So lemme get this straight, Bush asks Webb how Webb’s son is doing in Iraq.  Webb responds he wants to see his son home.  Bush says he didn’t ask what Webb wanted, he asked how his son was doing in Iraq.  Webb is therefore furious and wants to hit Bush.

dKos translation: Bush is a prick?

dKos title: “Too Bad He Didn’t Swing”?!

Kos’s puerile interpretation is beneath contempt.

Update 20061130: Even MORE evidence that Webb is a belligerent buffoon and dKos is a social misfit:

From the Washington Post:

“How’s your boy?” Bush asked, referring to Webb’s son, a Marine serving in Iraq.

“I’d like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President,” Webb responded, echoing a campaign theme.

“That’s not what I asked you,” Bush said. “How’s your boy?”

“That’s between me and my boy, Mr. President,” Webb said coldly, ending the conversation on the State Floor of the East Wing of the White House [...]

I have never in my life heard someone say, in reference to a question about their child, “That’s between me and my boy.” It’s like Webb didn’t know what to say except his talking points from his campaign.

And dKos?

The Washington Post doesn’t include Webb’s desire to slug the president. Which was endearing in its own right.

Yeah… socially retarded. Kos is the kid who admired the bullies in school, as long as they didn’t pick on him.

I don’t think it’s the fact that two people are talking and one does not answer the question. bush clearly was being insensitive to this parent, who has a CHILD overseas, and that’s really the issue. It’s not that Bush is really wrong, either, the question was ignored by Webb, but…..it was insensitive to do so. A simple, “I understand, and can you please answer how he is doing” would be appropriate in dealing with such an emotionally loaded question. At least validate what the person says, even if you don’t want to deal.

Clearly Webb could have said something like, “He’s well, but I wish he was home” and therefore he could answer the question politely AND get his rhetorical jab in at the President.

But no, Webb decides to ignore the question and just go for the puerile jab. That’s just rude. Further, Webb then says he wanted to slug the President for this exchange.

Obviously, Mr. Webb is not a good politician, and I wouldn’t trust him at all based on this tantrum.
