However, that's not the way it works. Never. It's not that we expect much from them and they disappoint us; we expect nothing from them and get exactly what we expect. We throw money at them, we give them help of all kinds, and it's just the same thing year after year, decade after decade, century after century. Really, the only people who have exceeded our expectations are those we stomped a mudhole in, and made sure we weren't nice about it. Germany, Japan, Korea (at least the south side). From past experience, it seems we should take Iraq, kick them in the balls until they spit blood, step on their necks and say, "Who's your economic pimp daddy?" When they scream like battered wives that we are their daddy, we pat them on the head, show them the wonders of capitalism, then go on our merry way (while taking a shitload of oil, of course). What I'm really trying to say is, if we mean to help people, giving them everything they need isn't the way to go. We offer knowledge, and if they take it, then good for them. If they don't take it, then they get what they get. We need to stop acting like mothers, compassionate and giving, and start acting like fathers, understanding but hard-nosed, all in the stereotypical fashion. They are some of the oldest in the world, one would think that time, civilization and practice would give them a more mature and focused stance, which is simply not the case. Can this be why we're so apt to "give them excuses" or something like that, because they are old, we tend to respect or honor that ancientness that's at the core? Personally, I'd like to believe they have had plenty of time to learn from others....not really evident though. I also do not think it is a matter of us thinking of the Middle Eastern countries as "children" as much as fearing what they will and will not do, and making excuses for certain actions because we do not understand nor can we assimilate their culture. Example, USA is really a teen compared to other countries....we've only been around a small amount of time, these other countries are the "older" ones....perhaps people assume that since they have been there such a long time, they should be more advanced in different ways, or practiced?
