Okay, About The Patriots…

I’m a Patriots fan, and I was disappointed that they lost the Super Bowl and the perfect season, but… well… they deserved to lose.

They played poorly, they were totally pwned by the Giants’ defensive line, and it just didn’t come together for them.  There were poor calls against them, the Fox announcers were clearly pulling for the Giants, but in the end it comes down to how they played, and they played poorly.

I worried about their playing during the regular season.  Sure, they won every game, but many weren’t decisive victories, and more than once they were bailed out of their poor playing by penalties called against opposing teams.  They won, but they didn’t dominate like a true championship team should.

Even during the Super Bowl (end of the 3rd quarter), my dad turned to me and said, “If [the Patriots] win with this score [7-3 at the time], there’s hardly any way I can defend them.  The Giants are dominating them.”

While the Patriots are a strong team, and deserved to be in the Super Bowl, I don’t think they deserved the “best team EVAH!” status some people were giving them.

On the flip side, the Giants’ strength was in their defense, and to give MVP to Eli Manning is ridiculous.  He didn’t play all that well, but their defensive line shattered the Pats’ offensive line, which no one else did all season.  Further, some people are giving the Giants way too much credit for their win.  They did well, but they didn’t put a fantastic team on the field.  They won, BARELY, over a team that’s usually much stronger than them on average.

Sunday was the day the Patriots weaknesses took over and the Giants strengths were highlighted, and it’s kinda funny that it took Giants to be true-giant killers.

18-1 is still better than the 1972 Dolphins 17-0 season.  It wasn’t the perfect season for the Patriots, but they were strong enough to be record-breakers, and they should be proud.  The Giants… well… they got a trophy and bragging rights, but they aren’t a better team than the Patriots.
