I can’t wait for this “green” fad to pass. On a positive note, at least I know how it felt to live back in the completely retarded 1970’s now.

HOH has been cancelled? Crud! How in the world am I going to find out how to repair joist beams right proper now? Eh, don’tcha know, that show was my lifeblood!

  2. Donkeyrock June 9, 2008 12:16 pm

The 70s were harsh. I have the pic of me in a pair of thick vertical stripe bellbottoms and large collar shirt to prove it.

And yes, the new green movement is frighteningly like the 70s, maybe with a little more zealotry.

Holmes on Homes is still going in Canada on HGTV, as far as I can tell, but I can’t find it on my TV now. It used to be on Discovery Home, which is now Green Planet *dry heave*, and it ain’t there no more. I just found that show only a few months ago, was watching every episode, loving the knowledge, and along comes Green Planet to fuck up my orgy of home improvement.

So Green Planet offers a show called Renovation Nation, with “Eco-friendly building techniques” and stuff, so I figure I’ll give it a try. I’m not against being environmentally friendly, it’s just not a concept what I would base a home upon. I’m a tad more practical.

Lo and behold, the show sucks an unwashed protester’s green moldy ass. FUCK! You kill an awesome show in its seventh season with some new lame-ass show with a lame-ass host going around the country to see what kind of arts-and-crafts bullshit these new hippies have come up with? Come on!

Is there some good info available in the show? Yes. However, you have to wade through all the preachy crap they spout, and watch some people fill their home with plastic bottle chandeliers to find a nugget of good info. It’s not worth it. So, off the DVR it goes, and I’m stuck without Holmes on Homes.

Worse yet, I tried to get my Holmes on Homes fix online, but they block the IPs from the U.S., so only Canadians can get it. I tried a proxy, but it didn’t work.

My best Yosemite Sam: Consarn brika fracka &^*$@)^&%#$$%$^%^&^&*

To conclude… fuck Green Planet Channel in its ass. *sigh*

P.S. - I did watch a few other Green Planet shows, and I was equally unimpressed, but that rant is for another time.

I concur. The only good thing on D-home was holmes on homes. i didnt think the programming could get any worse - until in turned into planet green (or “Planet Lame” as I like to call it)

  4. Donkeyrock June 18, 2008 2:37 am

Yup, I do believe that was the only show I watched on Discovery Home, too.

  5. Brian L. June 18, 2008 9:34 am

Mike Holmes should show up personally at Discovery’s headquarters and totally renovate their office space to be completely off-level. That’d be the perfect way to show ‘em the intense value he brought to we, the consumer’s lives.

Wherever you are, Mr. Holmes—you’re definitely missed down here in the States! Hope to see you back on the air soon!

    ROFL

    Renovate to be off-level. Awesome.

You know they could pull it off, too. Who would stop that big Swede? lol

    Swede! Swede! Swede!

Planet Green has no shows about recycling, solar panels, alternative energy, recycling water, electric cars like the EVs and other problems. I hate it the channel is like celeb Planet Green Reality Show Channel, it sucks. I could make a better Planet Green Channel. FSTV, Link, MSNBC and the Golf Channel have more pro-green issues than Planet Green the Celeb Reality Show that looks green but does not discuss any issues. Make a Green Recycling program about me, I don’t use gas power except for hot water, when I get money that will change. When I used water in the shower or to wish dishes I recycle it to flush the toilet. I use Karl Malone’s rules for the toilet see 1-mellow 2-flush! I use 13 Watt energy saver seven year light bulbs from Bernard’s. I use daylighting during the day. I use the AC only when it gets ultra dewpoint sticky or above 90 degrees Farenheit. I use a shower sprayer with a shutoff or low settings to save water. You know the shower head that you can adjust it from high, low high, medium, low medium, low to no water to save water. I set the Gas HWT as low as I can weather permitting. I mow grass only once a month to save gasoline petrol. I walk and ride my Trek 5000 when possible and applicable. I plan on buying an ES and a EV refit for transportation. Only one room is lit at my house at once unless I am doing something where I need more lights. Each Light socket only has one bulb and no more otherwise it would be a waste. I can ride my bike six miles I am working on ten. I have my gas furnaces shut off all year and when I get the money I will go all electric. At work I have custodians give me all their pencils they sweep up at the end of the day. This all saves money and energy.

  15. Donkeyrock October 1, 2008 8:04 pm

Eco-freaks bad. I am, however, keenly interested in the air car. I like the possibility of a car that can run forever without having to stop at gas stations. A car running on compressed air, with an air compressor on board? Muy Awesome-amento. Get some new solar cells and battery tech, and it would only need occasional maintenance. Now we just have to Americanize the wussy euro-look of the thing. Air Navigator… WANT!

  16. Spurwing Plover October 8, 2008 11:31 am

  25. Donkeyrock October 12, 2008 4:41 pm

True, wind turbines are harming some birds, but they seem to be harming bats even more:

    http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/08/25/wind-turbine-bats.html

“The bat fatalities appear to be a more significant problem than bird deaths from wind turbines in most locations. “Here we’re picking up ten bats for every bird,” Baerwald said.”
