Bill Quick Votes FOR A Candidate

Bill Quick of Daily Pundit votes for Bob Barr, Libertarian.

I was pleasantly surprised to read that, because he’d been talking about voting for McCain simply because he had a chance to beat Obama. I do understand the tactic, but I think this type of thinking is what’s put us in this political morass we’re experiencing now. People aren’t voting FOR a candidate, they’re voting AGAINST a candidate they don’t like by voting for their closest opponent. In my opinion, this is basically abrogating your responsibility to vote for a candidate who you think will be the best leader for this country.

When I tell people I’m voting for Barr, most say I’m wasting my vote because it takes a vote away from McCain, and McCain is the only man who can beat Obama. It’s just the opposite; I’m using my vote to vote FOR a candidate I’d want to see in office, because I don’t want McCain in office simply because he has a few differences of opinion with Obama. McCain is just as bad as Obama in most respects, and he’s not representing me or my views of how this country could be better run. He’s typical, just as Obama is typical, because they’re politicians without principle — they only know political expedience, not national values.

I am far more Libertarian than Republican or Democrat, and I’m going to vote for the Libertarian candidate because he’s the only candidate I’d want in office. I’m not going to vote for McCain because Obama’s a racist Marxist, and I’m not going to vote for Obama because McCain is a tax-and-spend religious-right lover; Bob Barr is my candidate because he’s running on a platform of priciples with which I mostly agree.

I have a best friend who recently announced that she was voting for Bob Barr. I wasn’t too familiar with him and actually read word for word his statements on the issues on his website. Unfortunately my conclusion was that this guy is a joke. http://womenartmoney.blogspot.com/2008/10/10-reasons-why-bob-barr-is-joke.html

Thanks for the link, I read the article and I see why many people might have a problem with his policies. However, these policies are the backbone of our nation, and adhering more closely to them will help everyone by allowing everyone to compete with less governmental interference.

I personally think we do need some economic regulation simply because our system of finance is not really free market, but any effort to pull us away from capricious spending by Congress — not just for pet projects like health insurance, but to bail out the financial systems that are now integrally tied to our government in the form of trillions of dollars — is a step in the right direction. We do have to remember that most of the power is in Congress, not in the President’s hands, but proper leadership can help steer Congress away from these drunken binges of spending on credit.

Like with business, no way do I want to give businesses a free pass on working however they wish while polluting the environment or cheating the public; but I don’t want to force businesses to pay more — for taxes or payroll or whatever — just to allow a politician to score points for the latest emotionally feel-good correct gesture.

I might write up something point-for-point on the article you linked, but I’m a verbose bastard, so I’ll have to save it for another post. But I thank you again for pointing it out to me, smartblackboy, and wish you a good morning. :>
