| Does The Donk Approve? | Yes, The Donk does approve. Sappy, but a self-eulogy, so it’s appropriate. |

Oh no. You’re serious?
We’re taking separate paths on this one. Seasons in the Sun was listened to for one reason only….some girl liked it. No need to hear it again since … except in my head when it is mentioned.
You really should listen to the original French version:

The lyrics are way less sappy. The singer is saying goodbye also, but with a lot more sass. One verse he says goodbye to is his wife’s lover…and not in a sweet way. And when he says goodbye to his wife, he tells her he dying with his eyes closed — like they were so many times to her infidelities.
Much imporved of Rod McKuen’s syrupy translation.
I’ll check out the French version in a bit, but I stand (poised to run away from the angry mob) behind my decision. Yes it’s sappy, but it seemed appropriate for the song. Whether the French did better, we shall see.
The fact that you know of a French version of this song makes me curious. And if the song is in French on YouTube, I’m gonna have to be faux-angry at you and call you a frog-lover, but that’s just my duty as a redneck-American. Then I’m gonna cook up some French Fries in tallow (my god, it makes all the difference) and ask you what wine goes with them. :>

Ah, the French were always on the side of the Americans who were doing the right thing. You have to admire their consistency.
To satisfy your curiosity, my basic understanding of French language songs comes from having a French-Canadian wife.
“Ah, the French were always on the side of the Americans who were doing the right thing.”
That’s debatable.
You married a woman who is both French AND Canadian?! Merde! (I kid. My sense of humor is both callous and base, so try not to hold it against me. Without knowing me, my written humor could seem quite evil to others.)
As for the French video… that’s one annoyed Frenchman. But still, it’s old french music, and tough to get behind. Sammy Davis Jr had more sass than that guy.
