Extremists More Willing To Share Their Opinions, Study Finds

People with more extreme liberal views in the community may be more likely than others to attend publicly visible protests and display bumper stickers espousing their liberal views, because they think the community supports them.

Froch defeats Dirrell by questionable decision – Boxing Results

Casino/SHOWTME – By Scott Gilfoid: In one of the worst scored and worst refereed bouts I’ve ever seen in my life, WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch defeated American Andre Dirrell by a questionable 12 round split decision tonight in Froch’s home town of Nottingham, England. I say questionable because I had the fight scored nine rounds to three for Dirrell and I think Froch should have been penalized multiple times for punching to the back of Dirrell’s head, throwing elbows and for slamming him to the canvas.

I counted over 10 occasions where Froch should have been deducted points – or at the minimum – given a warning by the referee. However, as some people say, it’s not easy to fight in England when you’re a foreign fighter. Judging by the internet forums, I’m not the only one that feels that Dirrell was given a bum decision by the judges. The final judges’ scores were 115-112, 115-112 for Froch and 114-113 for Dirrell.

I just watched this fight on the DVR, and it was a horribly officiated fight, and the judges were clearly bought and paid for since they gave it to Froch. Dirrell was no angel, that’s for sure, but he won that fight.

Californication on Showtime: Watch Recaps, Episode Schedules, Downloads.

Californication is a really funny show, I don’t care how puerile it makes me look, I’ll defend it to the end. The writing is witty, the acting is spot-on, and the sex is fun. Keep it coming.

Use Your Homeowner’s Insurance, Lose Your House

Chinese New Year

Insurers are starting to not only deny the claims of homeowners who dare file claims related to the drywall’s effects, which include, apart from the horrible stench, corrosion of pipes and wires. Trouble is, since homeowner’s insurance is a requirement for mortgages, losing that insurance can result in instant foreclosure.

Phillip Walker and Ricky Shirah are free to claim residence wherever they like. Two weeks from Tuesday, it will up to the voters to place them where they belong.

I ask you, is it a prerequisite that people seeking public office be liars?

“Uh, my permanent residence is here, where I get all my mail and homestead exemption.”

“So you live outside the area you want to serve.”

“Uh, well, I actually live over here. Uh….”

“We’ve got all this evidence that points to you not living there.”

“Uh… uh…”

Stay tuned till next week when we see what else these dolts can lie to us about.

Seriously, why won’t people with scruples run for public office? That sounds like a man-on-the-street opinion poll project.

MashSpots – Locate Local Useful Businesses & Services by Address

I tried this out, not bad, the layout doesn’t fit well on my netbook (had to fullscreen the browser and the ads and layout still were jammed together), but I did find a pizza place close by that delivers that I haven’t tried yet, so it worked for me.

I watched this show and was pleasantly surprised. It’s fun, entertaining, and a bit informative. I like it, and it gets da thumbs.

Underestimating Fox News

Fox News had more people in the all important A25-54 demographic watching their channel at three in the morning east coast time than CNN had for the show that leads off their prime time.

via That’s Gotta Hurt – Jonah Goldberg – The Corner on National Review Online.

I don’t like Fox news… or any of the TV news organizations, but I know that many people try to demonize Fox, and Fox just dominates the ratings. Don’t underestimate Fox, it’s the only outlet that’s outwardly conservative, and at least 50% of the country calls themselves conservative.

Live in Ontario Canada? Help find this meteorite

Y’know, I really am a bad blogger. I may’ve seen this meteorite here in Florida, or a different piece of it. I was smoking one of my now-banned flavored cigarettes on my porch, and I’m looking up in the sky and I briefly see a very bright light go past. I assume it’s a meteorite, but I found it odd because it had no trail. I thought it might be an aircraft, but discount that idea because of its brief viewing time and rate of travel across the sky. It was, if I recall correctly, moving somewhat Northward, but I can’t be sure if it was traveling Easterly (my porch is on the north side of my house). So, who knows, maybe I saw this one they’re looking for.

Holy Horrible Journalism, Batman! Northeast Passage Edition

One newspaper is making the most of this “first ever event”, according to a story in the UK Register:

The Times has liberally papered London underground carriages with a fascinating new ad campaign. One poster shows a ship navigating some treacherous icy waters, with the accompanying copy reading:

Climate change has allowed the Northeast Passage to be used as a commercial shipping route for the first time.

[...]

Impressive – if only it were true.

According to the ad copy:

To help you navigate the changing world we have more dedicated science and environment correspondents than the Guardian, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail or Independent.

Only one problem: The Northeast Passage has been opened for commerce since 1934 – and never ‘closed’.

Over the years hundreds of thousands of freighters have passed through, and after Russia put Soviet-era politics aside it was extended to foreign commerce in the 1990s. As the Register reported two weeks ago.

So it appears that the Northeast passage story is just a case of bad journalism wrapped into an eco-scare story.
